Fixed Wire Testing

The test and inspection of an electrical installation is commonly referred to as Fixed Wire Testing. Performed at regular intervals, it helps ensure that an installation complies with BS 7671: IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition (Amendment 3). On completion of the Fixed Wire Testing the client is issued with an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), or Periodic Inspection Report (PIR) as it was referred to in previous editions of the regulations. Any deviations from the standard are highlighted in this report.

[Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 employers are responsible for ensuring the safety and health of their employees and any members of the public that may be at risk from work activities. This includes electrical safety.]

Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging or thermography is an extremely powerful method of identifying any issues within electrical or mechanical systems. Thermography operates by accurately measuring the infrared or heat energy of an objects surface, producing a detailed visual image showing its temperature in contrast with its surrounding area. As excessive heat output is directly associated with electrical and mechanical failure we get a clear visual image highlighting any areas that are susceptible to failure.

As thermal imaging is a non-invasive process, it provides a safe, quick and cost effective way to evaluate the integrity of equipment and identify any single point of failure. Often when equipment fails it halts production and can have the potential to cause harm. By including thermal imaging in their maintenance schedule our clients significantly reduce any potential for downtime whilst minimising the risk to personnel.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination but some types of defect can only be found by testing. We recommend your equipment is inspected and tested by a competent person at appropriate intervals, depending upon the type of equipment and the environment in which it is used.

[The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury is maintained in a safe condition.]
